Paget’s Disease of the Nipple

Paget’s Disease of the Nipple is a rare form of invasive breast cancer arising from the cells around the nipple areolar complex. The cancer cells can arise from the duct cells behind the nipple and spread to the areolar complex.

The nipple and areolar presentation often appears scaly, red, irritated with skin excoriation. It mimics the presentation of a nipple dermatitis. A history of allergy or dermatitis need to be determined to rule out before making a diagnosis of Paget’s Disease of the Nipple.
