Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (IDC)

IDC is the most common type of breast cancer in women (80%).  Majority of the breast cancer diagnosed are of the “not otherwise specified” (NOS) variant and it is slightly more aggressive than the other variants (eg. Tubular, mucinous, medullary, cribriform and papillary)

It is invasive when the cancer cells broke through the wall of the duct and invade and spread to the surrounding breast tissue. Once the cancer cells invade through the duct walls, it can spread to other organs and nodes via the blood vessels and lymphatic system.

IDC can affect women at any age and incidence is more common as women grow older.
